Diversions

From Eroica With Love Fanfic Recs

  • Diversions [Mirror] by Jen. B [Excerpt] - Since when, he wondered, had Dorian been willing to kill for him?

Very nice, long fic. I love how Dorian comes to some realizations, and Klaus too. The plot was quite nicely done and I loved the action. I found myself wishing for more from the ending, but I suppose it's enough to have a 'happy ending' for these two. :) (Klaus/Dorian) (PG-13)

  • From Eroica. by Kadorienne [Excerpt] - Klaus had always wondered how he would hold up under torture. He was about to find out...

This is a really great fic. It's certainly made me think. Kadorienne wrote the torture quite well! Spoilers, highlight to see: To be honest, I don't get Dorian's reaction in the end. I understand that the burden of the knowledge that Klaus would have let him die must be terrible, but I also get Klaus' reason for it. And the very end was also hard to understand. Even if Dorian was angry (that Klaus had acted like he hated him all that time & also that he'd let him die even if he understood Klaus' reasons), suddenly just not loving Klaus anymore? o_O No wonder it was labeled depressing.(Klaus x Dorian) (R for violence) (Torture, depressing)

  • Breaking and Entering by Neery [Excerpt] - Klaus really needs Dorian's help.

I think the comments on the site say pretty much everything... But hey, what's s'more praise! I love how we could really get a feel for how da Costa scares Dorian, and how he can say no to Klaus but... It was also nice to see Klaus really thinking about Dorian's part in this case and  feeling guilty for once. Also? Running together! :3 (Klaus/Dorian) (PG-13+)

  • Blackmail by Cassie Ingaben (LJ) [Excerpt] - Klaus asks Eroica to do something that will change their relationship forever.

This is a real piece of work. In most Eroica fics with this type of situation, Dorian is always pretty happy to be in his position, but I very much like how different he is in "Blackmail". I am always one for happy endings, but this ending suited me just as much because of the way it was handled. I loved the end. Too little, too late. Or is it too much, too late? • The Course Of True Love by Kadorienne [Excerpt] - Klaus is caught in a most unexpected way. Once and for all, he manages to get rid of Eroica, but in doing so comes to a realization about the reality of Eroica's existence in his life.

Somehow, I forgot that I found 'Too Good To Be True' from the link to this story. *sweatdrop* Can't believe I almost missed it! This is alternate sequel to "Too Good To Be True'. And ow, it hurt at times reading this! Definitely more difficult than the other sequel, 'The Truth Shall Set You Free". I was crying by the end. *still sniffling* Very much worth a read as the rest, but you might prepare some tissues before reading. (Klaus x Dorian, Dorian x OMC) (R) Note: Previous = Too Good To Be True, Alternate sequel to that = The Truth Shall Set You Free
  • The Truth Shall Set You Free by Kadorienne (Artist: Sio) [Excerpt] - The time has arrived; Klaus is caught. Iron Klaus was never meant for a desk job, so when the opportunity for one last mission arrives, he takes it.

I remember holding my breath when I got to the end of 'Too Good To Be True', praying that there would be a sequel. 'Lo and behold, there was, and it was even better than I hoped for! The more I read from her, the more I think Kadorienne is my favorite Eroica author. I read the first fic and this sequel twice, and could easily turn around and read it again. The illustration at the end is just the icing on the cake! ♥♥♥ (Klaus x Dorian) (R) Note: Previous = Too Good To Be True
  • Too Good To Be True by Kadorienne [Excerpt] - Just a few scenes from the manga told from a somewhat different angle. Klaus' point of view.

Fascinating idea. It almost has me seriously convinced that this is how it is in canon, though I know it's sadly not so! Very worth a read, not to mention (yet) it's sequel. (pre-Klaus x Dorian) (R) Note: Sequel = The Truth Shall Set You Free.
  • A Rose Vine and a Wire Rope by Kadorienne (Artist: Sio) [Excerpt] - Iron Klaus needs someone for once, and Dorian is the only one there for him.

Very interesting premise - Klaus sending himself to Alaska! The fic lives up to it's name. This is without a doubt in my top 5 list of favorite Eroica fics, and that's saying something (so many favorites!). (Klaus x Dorian) (R)
  • Goodwill To All Men by Karen Colohan (artist: Nina) [Excerpt] - Christmas is supposed to be the season of goodwill, but Klaus can't help feeling those around him him are stretching things a bit too far...

This is a brilliant idea - I could imagine Klaus perfectly in his costume! I also like Dorian's, it fits him...so to say. *grin* The illustrations are wonderful, though I wish  there was one of Klaus in his costume. This is probably my third reread of this fic, and every time it left me feeling very happy and satisfied. (Dorian x Klaus) (NC-17)
  • Spring Sequence by Thia [Excerpt] - Klaus offers Dorian the bargain: One night and one alone. Dorian can keep his end; can Klaus?

I remember one other fic with this premises so it could be a bit of a fandom cliche, but I'd read them all if they're as good as Spring Sequence. I smiled throughout most of this, especially the end. Thia is great at composition, I especially love the bits that strike me as canon or possible canon in this fic and Deep Waters. • Christmas As Always by Hwar Goh Tsu [Excerpt] - Klaus doesn't have much luck with Christmas Eve. Dorian intends to change that.

I was pleasantly surprised by this, as I don't think the author's other fic was to my tastes. "Christmas As Always" was a delightful pre-Christmas fic that I could see happening so easily. Not necessarily in canon (this is too sexy), but definitely in my happy place/head. Love the the tiny bit of interruption plot added in as well! (Dorian x Klaus x Dorian) (PG-13)

  • Deep Waters by Thia [Excerpt] - In which Dorian dreams, and Klaus doesn't.

Fascinating, I don't think I've ever read anything like this - certainly no Eroica fics like it. In a way, it's beautiful (the imagery), and in a way frightening (the teeth revealed, the underlying fear). I love how the dreams were used to show the hidden parts of Dorian, and the last dream was really provocative. I'm definitely curious about this author's other works! (Klaus x Dorian) (R)
  • The Three Kisses, or "Love Tank" by Beth Minster [Excerpt] - The Major needs Eroica's services... but can he pay the price?

This reminds me of the fic Caress the Gun because of the payment method, but instead of Klaus offering (which is the rarer event), Dorian is the one to ask for it in this one (which seems proper canon-wise). I love Dorian and Klaus here and enjoyed reading this very much. I could really see the whole plot happening in my mind and as an IC thing to do. That reminds me - Klaus was very much himself here, which actually made it easier to believe the moments when he had to hand up payment. This was a highly entertaining read and the end was so very amusing. XD (Also, totally dig the illustrations!) (Dorian x Klaus x Dorian) (PG-13)

  • A Matter of Goodwill by Beth Minster [Excerpt] - A priceless artifact, a theft, and Mardi Gras.

Despite a few fanon cliches presented in this fic, this was an absolutely entertaining read! I love an author who can write an OC you can really get into. St. Ambrose is exactly that, even though he's not the main character. I prefer fics with the feeling of a 'lighter' setting, but there was no way I could put this down. I think the plot was very interesting to read, especially the voodoo - I haven't read a fic with those elements in this fandom (though I have read HP x-over fic and an X-Files x-over one). I think one of my favorite scenes was the duel scene between Dorian and Uzoma. Even though it's fanon, it was a nice read. The author didn't have to tie up the St. Ambrose-Silver, Uzumo and goodbyes with the old saxophone player and St. Ambrose, but she did, and that made it all the more special. ♥ (mild Dorian x Klaus, OMC x OFC (R, violence)

  • A Rich Man's World by Anne-Li [Excerpt] - As Klaus's father lays on his deathbed, Klaus finds out that the Eberbach's aren't as well-off as previously thought. Klaus must come up with a way to get the Eberbach's out of debt.

I must confess, I had no idea what to expect when I started this fic armed only with the knowledge that it wasn't Dorian x Klaus. I'm very happy that I read to the very end! I've been curious about other pairings before but they're a lot harder to find. This is truly a rare pairing and it's perfectly thought out in this fic. I must warn Dorian lovers though - he's not his best in this fic; indeed, he's kind of the villain. It's worth it if you numb yourself to his part in this. There were certain things that made this fic very likable to me, such as the knife and poison morning gifts, and Mr. James 'trickery'. (Klaus x James, past Dorian x James) (PG-13)

  • Feel the Gun by Anne-Li [Excerpt] - Dorian gets perfect tens.

  • Caress the Gun by Anne-Li [Excerpt] - Klaus gets tired of Dorian's poor skills in gunmanship and follows the Nun Theresa's idea in desperation. Did he realize that the prize offered would be won so easily? He certainly didn't realize how much he would enjoy it, himself...

Gaah, hot! I like reading about shooting ranges for some reason, and this didn't disappoint. It was amusing to think of all the terms from Dorian's POV, and I like how Klaus was while explaining everything. However, nothing beats the scene where Klaus' father comes in and onwards. Wow! • The Waiting Man by Kat Benedict [Excerpt] - For the last week or so, Klaus had had the feeling of impending doom, as if disaster waited just around the corner, or to be more precise, was hanging over his head like the Sword of Damocles.

This is epic! My feelings changed so much while reading this fic that I have no idea where to begin writing this rec. I'll do my best! The suspense and anticipation was so strong in the first chapters - I was constantly wondering what the big thing could be that Klaus keeps feeling and being paranoid about. Then, when I ventured a guess or thought I knew, it turned out not to be it! I love how the author played the whole thing - when things started being revealed, it was definitely a shock. I initially had the 'WTF' reaction, but god, if I wasn't amazed (not to mention sad) and buying it as the story went on! I also love this fic because it's not just one big plot - there are lots of little (or big) adventures/disasters along the way. I have to mention that I wish the author had clarified how Klaus/Dorian knew certain things about each other or when they had told each other (example: Klaus knowing about Dorian's 'rape'). Another bigger thing is Klaus's characterization at the cabin. I can somewhat buy it because I've never seen a breakdown, but in that moment I wondered about his characterization. However, the moment Dorian came in the picture, everything was just...mind-blowingly awesome from then on. A minor irritation was the use of Klaus' name. The 'dem' was never used here even when Klaus said his full name. As well, I wished there was a translation key for the German, but unfortunately, most of the fics I've read don't have one. Just have BabelFish ready. I love how the author wrote the friendship and love. It was beautiful and I loved reading a fic where love took much precedence over sexual feelings for once. I cried in the end and was very, very happy. This fic took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride and I'm elated to have read it. (Dorian x Klaus x Dorian) (NC-17)

  • Perfume of the Gods by Kat Benedict [Excerpt] - To cheer Dorian up, Mr. James tells him about an emerald that's believed to be hollow and contains a perfume that makes the wearer loved by all, even enemies. Dorian immediately decides to steal it. Meanwhile, Klaus is on the mission to retrieve the other stolen artifacts, stop some Egyptian smugglers, and Ashirakian's from trying to reclaim those pieces for themselves.

Very interesting idea - who more than Dorian would want a perfume that could make people love you? Or in this case, a certain someone; he's got plenty of admirers already. I found this a great, highly enjoyable read, and especially liked the action bits. The use of disguises was also fun to read, plus all the bad guys and good guys. There was also a scene that was sad and kind of made me want to hit Dorian over the head, but it was okay when Mandel got someone for his other pillow (just read!). Lastly, I'll be honest that I wanted more out of the ending, but when I think about it, it's actually pretty satisfying. I definitely have hope for Dorian and Klaus, especially remembering a certain scene that Klaus waved off as CPR... (Dorian x Klaus, mild others) (R)

  • It Cuts Both Ways by Karen Colohan [Excerpt] - It takes another man to make Klaus see Dorian in a whole new light.

I hesitated to rec this at first because the only things I know about Krycek are what I've read on a website or two - as well, I've never rec'ed a crossover. I decided to rec it because, in the end, it's all about the Dorian x Klaus and I very much enjoyed this fic; so why not? Also, the knifeplay was amazing and hot. I would never have known it was one of my kinks if I hadn't read it in fanfiction! I love the second half of this fic so much. ♥♥♥ (Krycek (X-Files) x Dorian, Dorian x Klaus) (NC-17, knifeplay)

  • 99 by Karen Colohan [Excerpt] - A hot day... Dorian... an ice cream...

Another cliche. *grin* I loved this piece - I don't think Dorian even knew how he'd affected Klaus! It's actually an interesting nice change of pace. This author definitely has a way with words. ♥ (Dorian x Klaus) (PG-13)
  • A Kiss Is Just A Kiss by Karen Colohan [Excerpt] - Instead of Dorian getting Klaus out of the closet, unexpectedly the two find themselves in a closet together...

This cracked me up! I always like cliche ideas like this. ;) I loved it all, but one part stood out - when Klaus turned off the torch. How far back in the closet can Klaus get? *grin* I especially loved the end. (Dorian x Klaus) (PG-13)

  • Only When I Lose Myself by Karen Colohan [Excerpt] - A dangerous mission concluded, Klaus and Dorian reach safety - barely. As a result, Klaus finds himself wondering...

  • The War of the Roses by Paraphilia [Excerpt] - Dorian's version of the picket fence fantasy -- with Klaus indoors, still sleeping after a night of passionate love-making, and now, Dorian was collecting roses to put in their bedside vase. But what would Dorian do if this fantasy came true?

So, I think the suspence while reading this almost killed me. It's so...rich. That's the only way I can think of to explain it. Intense? I love the idea of this, very well thought out! ♥ (Klaus x Dorian) (R+)

  • The Game Parlourmaids Play by Gloriana [Excerpt] - Detainment at a KGB encampment leads to a very merry chase.

Delightful idea, though is the KGB really smart enough to make something like that? (Actually, they could very well have gotten it from, ah, allies.) Still, very amusing (especially the part where the Alphabets walk in). ;) There are two endings to choose from - I like both, but the first one more because it's the more likely thing. • Coming Together by Gloriana [Excerpt] - Devotion, without sustenance, can reach its limits. Can Klaus realize it in time?

This takes place twenty years after the two meet. I wasn't sure how to feel about that at first, but it really came together! I like that Z became a Major and that Klaus became a Colonel - but is not happy in that position. I like what Klaus's dad did for him (though I don't think his wife was undevoted to him). I especially like how the end, well...came together. =P (Klaus x Dorian) (PG-13)

So much better than the summary, though those things are at the relative beginning and ending of the fic! I'm so charmed by Flambeau's writing, especially this piece in the Eroica section. The style of this is just perfect and a great way to go about this sort of idea. *squee* I want to reread it already. (Dorian x Klaus x Dorian) (NC-17)

  • And a thousand more by Flambeau [Excerpt] - Theft, housebreaking, champagne, political intrigue, lies, fashion tips, and strong language, in two hours or less.

A simple but surprisingly fun idea! Not only did the author provide us with an interesting plot, but a very interesting smidge of Dorian x Klaus as well. It didn't come across as the plot only being there to get to the pairing, and I liked that very much. (Dorian x Klaus) (PG)

By the description (at crack_van), I thought this fic would be relatively straightforward. I should have known it wouldn't be quite that easy! There were a couple of small things that 'bothered' me, but overall, I really enjoyed this fic. I especially think that the latter half of the story was ingenious! • Angel by Kay Reynolds [Excerpt] - Our heroes must escape from a Third World prison.

I suspect this fic'll never be on the top of my list of favorites, but I liked it. It has an interesting plot that I enjoyed reading. The only thing that stood out was Dorian's comment at one point that Klaus was Catholic - but he isn't in the original material. I found Bonham and James very amusing and IC in this fic. • Revels and Revelations by BT [Excerpt] - The Major is working undercover as Clarence Dobsen, an assistant clerk to Allen Firsdale, and is invited to the man's home for Christmas.

It's not often I'll willingly read an established relationship fic. Luckily, BT doesn't give summaries/pairings so I went in not knowing what to expect. I quite like works with a character (or more than one) going undercover, and the identity crisis that can happen when running into someone they know. The sex scene was very interesting for that. I wish there had been a conclusion to the plot, though! (Dorian x Klaus) (NC-17)

  • Cantiques de Noël by BT [Excerpt] - Klaus fails a mission (rather, it's canceled), and he takes leave far away from NATO and everyone else and their celebrating of Christmas. In their usual manner, Klaus and Dorian run into each other.

Beautifully set up; I adore BT's characterization of Klaus - his introspections and manner  are quite lovely to read. Perhaps my favorite scene was the car failing and there on, though the Major's dream was very interesting (it reminds me of Dorian's dreams in the manga!). I enjoyed the Christmas parties (the Major's agents and Dorian's) and the Stille Nacht (Silent Night) mention. I learn something (or several new somethings) for every Eroica fic I read! • Thorns by Sleeps With Coyotes [Excerpt] - There are certain duties expected of an Eberbach that Klaus has managed to avoid until now; but that takes a backseat with a long in coming run-in with the thief, Eroica.

I like the idea in this fic, very interesting (especially the whole family duty idea, ouch). More important, the knifeplay was an unexpected kink for me to enjoy. It was handled very well, and it was interesting to see Klaus deal with it (as well as Dorian's reaction to discovering it). (Dorian x Klaus) (NC-17, knifeplay)

Another interesting plot fic from BT! She's great at providing settings and all the workings. The references (such as Hieronymous Bosch) are really interesting! :) There was a particular part in "Horse #5" that I found appealing where the Major was quite observant. I admire this author for creating such deeply enjoyable works. (Dorian x Klaus, brief Dorian x James) (NC-17)

  • The "Caged Flight" Series by BT [Excerpt] - The Major is kidnapped by the KGB and manages to escape, but only after being drugged. Eroica saves him, but the drug is no simple thing; it sets the ball rolling for change, but how will Klaus deal with it what with his job and having to work with the person most involved?

I feel like I've read a novel. A great, adventurous and wonderful novel at that. Before I started reading, it was daunting to see how long the first part was, but once I got started it was impossible to stop. The characterization is close to spot on for the two, and the plot is immaculate. I think it was really interesting how the KGB kidnapping worked out in the first part! That's one way to set things up. As well, the second part was just...a wonderful oneshot. The third (and fourth) one may be my favorite, or maybe they're all my favorite. I think especially that the use of all the languages and words of the time is just perfect (though you may want to bring out the BabelFish or Dictionary.com at times). (Dorian x Klaus) (NC-17)
