The Killer in You by Lena (Czmadzia) [Excerpt] - What if Rem hadn't killed L, realizing that more suspicion would be out on Misa? Instead, she takes a different route, giving Light a way for himself to kill L. Can Light write down L's name and create his perfect world? Will Ryuk ever stop laughing? (Probably never.)
To me, this is the fanfic of all time for Death Note that says everything I myself have been trying write in my own WIPs. There are even two versions to chose from once done with the Prologue and Ch. 57: Two Choices - verA, a slightly happier tale, more pure!Light oriented, or verB, a darker side with more Kira!Light but same ending. I was very happy with the first version, but it was so good that I had to read what other ending the author had written - and it was longer than verB, so it promised to be an in interesting read. And it was! This fanfic really does a wonderful job of pointing out things that should have been noticed, or giving insight on Ryuk and Rem's thoughts. I especially was surprised at Rem's reason for not killing L. It makes so much sense, I'm surprised that she didn't consider it in the manga. I recommend reading both versions, but if you decide not to, read verB if you want to see Light put up a bit more of a fight as Kira, or verA if you want to see a side of Light that can't kill L in the end. Don't worry about the pace of their getting together. I found absolutely nothing wrong with it - it wasn't extreme, and it wasn't weak. Everything was perfect, and I probably would have read this no matter the pairing or if it was gen. I think I liked the second ver (B) slightly better, as it's longer and is a bit more canonical (the Light not giving up so easily thing). Read the Behind the Lines by the author if you're unsure about which to read, or if you want to read both, because reading verA first is a spoiler for the long verB. I recommend reading it just because it makes so much sense about L's death and N&M. (Light x L) (PG-13)

- Blood and Chocolate by Sayo124 [Excerpt] - Due to a turn of fate, L finds Yagami Light injured and near death one night. Instead of calling the police, he ends up taking him home for reasons he's not even sure of. When Light wakes up, he doesn't remember what happened to him. Due to Light's intelligence (stubbornness), he ends up discovering that L is a Detective and working on the Kira case.
A very interesting idea. I find myself enjoying Light's slightly immature attitude, and am fascinated with the possibilities. The pillow ordeal is totally amusing, as well as how Light got out of the room. I'm definitely excited and curious to see how/if L realizes that the boy he's taken isn't (or actually, wasn't) quite as innocent as he thought. (L x Light) (PG-13 for language)

- Of Music by Mikanis [Excerpt] - Yagami Light is one of a kind. But being different takes it toll, so he rids himself of stress by attending only the best musical performances every three months. On one of those performances, he notices a man who he at first thinks is showing disrespect by wearing casual clothes and no shoes, but soon Light realizes that the man is the same kind as himself. Through a series of short meetings, Light, for the first time in his life, let's someone in.
I never expected to find such a brilliant Death Note fic on fanfiction.net - but I did, and a total AU nonetheless. It still has a lot in common, such as L being a detective and Light studying for it, Watari, Light's family, Wedy (and I assume Aber). What's so unique to me is the music. It's just so deep and draws me in, I feel as though, like Light, that I'm sitting beside the piano player. How Mikanis got Light and L talking was particularly brilliant and just made so much sense. There's no doubt in my mind that this author is an extremely talented storyteller. Light and L both have things I can identify with, and I felt as if I was getting to know them better as people. The third and latest chapter (all of them are nicely long) have really caught my imagination, not to mention excitement. I want to keep going on and on, but I hope what I've written is sufficient enough to get you started. ♥. (L x Light) (PG-13 for language and suggestive content)

- Abyssal Heart [definition] by Ashinan [Excerpt] - Misa and Light are being watched at headquarters while Light helps L investigate Kira - they're chained together almost 24/7. Light isn't Kira due to giving away his Death Note. L and Light work together day after day trying to take down Kira, though all the while L is watching Light closely for signs that he might just be Kira himself. Light is not happy about it, as he considers L a friend, especially as the story goes on. L hadn't realized friendships worked (and still has issues) until he hurts Light unintentionally. The story also deals with how the two deal with being together 24/7 in such close proximity, especially since they have completely different personalities and sleeping habits.
I'm so happy to find this fic - perfect for my mood because I wanted something not too depressing and that didn't deal with L dying as focus. This might be one of those guilty pleasure fics though - while not completely OOC, you can't say it's really IC either (same with any fic). I'm definitely not saying it's WAFF, because it's not (though I admit to a few cheesy lines). I absolutely love L's characterization. Who's to say things couldn't have been like this in a more BL world (*grin*)? The only unfortunate part is that this is pure!Light (using the Japanese term) and who knows what will happen if/when he turns back? But it makes it more exciting - how will the author end it? Will it end at all? The dreams Light had while feverish were amazing. So much love! I love how the chain is used, very plausible (showering, dressing etc). I also adored that the author used L's lack of friends in his life and other such things. Oh, and the %s! Haha~ ♥ It was so easy to click "next chapter" every time, and the chapters are a nice length as well. I'm excited to read more! *__* (Light x L) (PG-13)

- Keelywolfe [ Website: The Shoppe] - She has Death Note fanfics on her site. She has a lot more stuff for other series too. I love her DN fics! <3 There's just something about them, and it's not just the sex.

- Sub Divided [WebSite: The Loading Dock] - I LOVE the "Methods of Interrogation" fic! It was so delightfully good. *.* It was actually almost just like the past where Light was interrogated, but add hallucinations and things to spice it up. It was gen for the most part. Ahh, maybe I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more to it, but I love it anyway.

- Cheryl-chan - Cheryl-chan has some of my favorite DN fics! I really liked "A Cup of Tea." She has some awesome Naruto fanfics too!
- Darkeyedwolf - A very interesting journal, for sure! The fics are even more interesting. I love "Becoming,"Just That," and "Paper Cranes." 'Becoming' is the result of what would happen if Souichirou Yagami died. 'Just That' and 'Paper Cranes' are very, very different, and I love them! They're LxLight without the angst/depression etc. Be sure to look in the memories.
